PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) is an engineering thermoplastic known for its excellent toughness, fatigue resistance, heat resistance, weatherability, electrical properties, and low water absorption. Modified PBT materials—enhanced through reinforcement, flame retardancy, and other modifications—exhibit improved heat resistance, flame retardancy, dimensional stability, and modulus, making them suitable for automotive, electronics, and electrical industries.
Applications in Electronics & Electrical:
To meet the demands of smart appliances, internal circuit control systems require plastics with high glow-wire ignition temperature (GWFI/GWIT) and comparative tracking index (CTI). Modified PBT materials address these needs through enhanced flame retardancy, low warpage, high CTI, high flow, and other performance improvements.
Applications in Automotive:
PBT materials are used in automotive electrical components (ignition distributors, fuse boxes, connectors), headlamp housings, headlight bezels, window supports, door handles, wiper motor housings, central locking systems, air filters, sensors, fuel pumps, and airbag components. With global vehicle production expected to grow at an average annual rate of 3.5% over the next five years, demand for modified PBT materials is projected to rise accordingly.
